Environmental and socio-economic policies in oil and gas regions: triple bottom line approach

Sustainability is a critical issue for resource-rich countries encountering environmental and social problems in remote regions struggling to overcome the national economy’s reliance on oil gas industry. We explore, through case study of Russian oil-producing regions, interdependency economic, issues by analysing trade-offs between need adopt new technology combat flaring demand socio-economic policies. The findings suggest that international companies can serve as effective vectors promoting technologies if regional governments take flexible integrated approach policies formulation.
